Introducing new designer: Kay Li

Kay Li

Fashion is ever being amended with new and up coming designers, who are leading the charge. I was gratefully invited to an exclusive preview of the Spring/Summer 2013 collection photo shoot, by the exceptional designer Kay Li, who is launching her eponymous label “Kay Li”.

One word that I would use to describe her collection, which couldn’t be more of perfect fit, is obsessed. Being fresh out of fashion school, her leading-edge ideas and concepts is what fashion should look like today.

Designer Kay Li‘s collection has a definite calming aesthetic appeal to it, embracing body and mind. The fabrics are from Hong Kong with a subtle color palette of greys, deep blues and whites along with a pop of green, which is always a favorite.

Different religions are mixed together to create the patterns and print. Geometric Islamic patterns lined hems of dresses and run up and down a solid grey pair of pants – which I must say, was my absolute favorite and I am gagging to get my hands on them!

The Japanese, Buddhist, Asian monks type inspiration is combined with how their clothes are worn, wrapped around and how the draping is infused into Kay Li‘s designs.

To that, her designers are structural and flawlessly constructed, made with asymmetrical facets with long flowing lines that ranged from tops, dresses as well as knee-length skirts.

Kay Li design detailThe clothes are made with indisputable details but the styling is simple and uncomplicated that makes it even more winsome.

Models were styled as Asian beauties dressed in bobbed black hair with a tight braid peaking from the back along with a heavy layer of foundation and orange eye shadow.

The backdrop to the shoot was all white, allowing the entirety of attention to centre on the clothing but giant origami swans were suspended from wire that made the set, to me, quite magical. It was just the right about of details.

It is Kay Li’s willingness to attempt the extraordinary coupled with her opulent personality is what seems so promising about her long career ahead.

Keep a look out for Kay Li, we will unquestionably see her around for a long time.
