Paris Couture Fashion Week Round-up - Highlights from the A/W 2013 Shows

By Dawn Wood

As Paris Couture Fashion Week has now come to a close, this is the perfect opportunity for me to indulge and share with you, the highlights of my favourite shows from the outstanding selection that was on offer for A/W 2013.

The dazzling event that took place over a series of five epic days dedicated to fashion, got off to a fantastic start with Naomi Campbell strutting down the Atelier Versace catwalk on June 30th. Not only did Naomi prove that she still has breathtaking supermodel status, but she also showcased some of Donatella’s best designs yet! With her confident poise and her ability to carry off just about anything Donatella chooses, Naomi certainly got Paris Couture Fashion Week off to a fantastic start. My favourite pieces from the Atelier Versace show? The sequinned micro-jacket that was immaculately embellished with Swarovski crystals, the emphasis on edgy looks throughout with leather and crocodile pieces, and the killer stilettos which models wore throughout the Atelier Versace show.

Also top of my fashion radar was Chanel. For me, Karl Lagerfeld is a genius and he always manages to keep the iconic fashion house’s good name by enabling classic to blend with modernity. This time around, Karl showcased luxury at its best with dresses and suit ensembles that were tailored and almost armour-like in terms of shape. Celebrities who attended the Chanel show included Rihanna and Kristen Stewart, who both came dressed to impress Karl himself. Rihanna wore a simple slinky white number but managed to up the glamour stakes by adorning herself with lots of pearls and elegant accessories. Kristen was no less of a show-stopper and chose to wear a fitted white tux blazer teamed with micro-hotpants. She was even spotted sporting a pair of leather fingerless gloves as a nod to Karl’s infamous statement accessory that he likes to wear.

And let’s not forget Jean Paul Gaultier! Always a designer to turn heads, his show this year was no exception. Models paved the runways looking sexy and feline, very Catwoman-esque. I particularly loved how he re-worked animal print and made his pieces wearable to even the most fashionable of tastes. Gaultier managed to out-do himself this time and combined structured work wear looks with more eccentric and overtly glamorous looks – overall, my favourite collection from Paris Couture Fashion Week!

There are of course many other highlights from the fine collections that I haven’t mentioned, but you can find them here in pictures, so enjoy!
