SHOES & DRAMA SHOWDOWN: The Best and Worst of This Year’s September Issues

The fashion industry has always been critisized for lacking diversity – hello Edward Enninful, bye Alexander Schulman!- but this September, the industry seemed to lack anyone other than Bella Hadid, who gorgeously graced ten covers this month! Anyway, we’re not complaining because she IS our #WCW even on days that aren’t Wednesdays..  So for now, here’s a list of our best and worst covers this season!

Disclaimer: We’re pretty biased to all things Arab .. #KhaleejiAttitude

Top Five Favorites:

Vogue Paris: With all the magazine covers trying to bait “Generation Next”, we absolutely love this alluring ode to the past by editor Emmanuelle Alt of Vogue Paris! Reminds us of a time when it didn’t matter how many IG followers a model had or if her last name was famous… Edie Campbell was chosen for her looks! Hats off to photographer David Sims behind this cover! #nostalgia #thebesttype #retro #fashionforward

Teen Vogue: Some people have Resting Bitch Face, Kaia Gerber has Resting Supermodel Face! We love everything about her and everything she’s in! Collier Schorr definitely brought out the Cindy Crawford effect in this cover shoot! #goodgenes #cindydidwell #loveitall

Marie Claire Arabia: We don’t usually like bloggers on… well, anything, but especially magazine covers – get the hint Chiara!!? But we absolutely love Lana AlSahely photographed by Nikola Borissov – & how she is has become our unofficial Middle East rep at Fashion Week! Move over blondie! #Arabianpower #Notyourtypicalblogger #wellearned

Emirates Woman: Look back into any magazine archive and we doubt you’ll find a Hijabi women on September issue. Photographer Rio-Romaine knows her shit! Clear enough reason why we absolutely love this Mariah Idrissi cover? #finally #gamechanger #welove

Allure: Being an 18 year old and buying anti-wrinkle serums already and freaking out is all to blame on social media. Allure magazine turned heads in this Helen Mirren cover shot by Scott Trindle. After all, Helen was quoted in the article that she wished she said “Fuck off” more often as a younger women, and we think that’s what she’s trying to say now on this cover. #seventytwoandstillpoppin #ageisjustanumber #fuckoff

Moving on to #CoverChaos ..

Harper’s Bazaar US: were the new angels booked?! You have one of the oldest (if not the oldest)… also we hate The Weeknd’s new look! ? We prefer him clean shaven and with style! 😉 And that double arm candy shot by Brigitte Lacombe for the Icon Portfolio sneak peek is just too lame for us. #TheWeeknd #Stepupthegame

Vogue US: Oh god. Dull and depressing… and the attempt to have a red gown as the center of attention only made this worse. The Nicole Kidman effect of the early 2000s should’ve been left there .. Sorry Wintour, maybe next time? #Opsshediditagain #boring #JLawthenewKidman

Glamour: We’re definitely all for modest models taking over the industry! But this cover is a complete disaster. Ugh! what should we discuss first? The horrible background or outfit? Halima Aden with photographer Benjamin Vnuk should’ve been a completely different outcome .. #shootmenow #thatsnothowitsdone #cringefordays

New York Magazine: Leopard print overload! This literally turned from sexy to tacky in two seconds. Ashley Graham photographed by Maurizio Cattelan & Pierpaolo Ferrari made us feel like we just walked in Cookie’s wardrobe room from Empire. #leopardoverload #cookie #empire #canyounot #tackiness101
