So happy to be part of this:
CULTURUNNERS EVENTS AT MIT | 5 – 6 OCTOBER 2014

“See, Mom! I told you my “inappropriateness” would one day make you proud!”

CULTURUNNERS at MIT is a multidisciplinary gathering of artists, designers, filmmakers, scientists, curators, and scholars whose practices inspire novel approaches towards cross-cultural exchanges specific to the United States and the Middle East. The public program, which follows a week of applied workshops, includes a daylong ‘Majlis’ Symposium, and an evening presentation as part of ACT’s official Monday Night Lecture Series.

As part of Edge of Arabia’s US tour, in partnership with Art Jameel, CULTURUNNERS will use custom-built technologies developed in collaboration with MIT to map, archive, and broadcast the experiences of the traveling artists over the course of their journeys.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 5TH: 12 – 6PM, MAJLIS SYMPOSIUM

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will host a daylong multi-disciplinary ‘Majlis’ at the “Cube” space, curated by Azra Aksamija, Class of 1922 Career Development Professor and Assistant Professor of the Arts at MIT and Ava Ansari, Edge of Arabia Associate curator. During this program, research, artworks, case studies, and technologies related to the theme of acculturation will be communicated through objects and stories presented by the participants and related to their practice. Serving as springboards for a series of conversations regarding experiences of mutual understanding between individuals or communities from the United States and the Middle East, these presentations will be documented as the first phase of CULTURUNNERS’ online archive.

Audience members will have the opportunity to move between different curated environments to interact with the presenters, during which they can examine and test the wearable, mobile, and online technologies developed during the workshops. The modified mobile studio will also be present, acting as an anchor for a series of roving programs.

Confirmed presenters include: Ahmed Mater, Daanish Masoud, Lara Baladi, Regina Maria Möller, Michael Rakowitz, Rashad Salim, Abdullah Al-Mutairi (GCC), Matthew Mazzotta, Stephen Stapleton, Wafa Bilal, Kelly Dobson, Marriam Mossalli & Husam Al-Sayed (Telfaz 11).

MONDAY OCTOBER 6TH: 7 – 9 PM, CULTURUNNERS @ MIT EVENING LECTURE

During CULTURUNNERS @ MIT evening lecture, selected artist, scientists and curators will present and discuss their findings from the Week of Workshops dedicated to developing technologies for travelling artists. Findings will be presented on MOBILE & WEARABLE TECHNOLOGIES and on ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS / ARCHIVAL PLATFORMS.

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Ava Ansari and Azra Aksamija.
