Dramatic ball gowns, airy tulle, traditional lace, and unconventional colors all walked down the aisle (fashion aisle that is) this past week in New York’s Spring/Summer 2014 Bridal Fashion Week. Here a few of the most note-worthy looks that will most likely make it from the runway to the wedding aisle.
Oscar De La Renta
The Spring/Summer 2014 show is a collection of gorgeously romantic and feminine gowns with a fairy tale feel. “Every woman dreams of that day,” mused Oscar de la Renta in his show notes. “You have to go the extra mile and fulfill that dream to make something that a woman will fall in love with.”
The collection incorporated interesting touches, such as gloves (a huge bridal trend for spring ’14), interesting hair ornaments, and the use of color, such as light blue and baby pink.
Vera Wang
Simply Striking. After seasons of experimenting with coloured wedding gowns, Vera Wang opted for a modern black and white palette this season. This collection is perfect for the modern, edgy, and forward thinking bride.
Monique Lhullier
As always, her design is accessible, fresh and light. This upcoming Spring and Summer Collection offers a striking cross section of styles to suit all brides. This collection has it all Whether you’re throwing a casual garden soiree, or an ultra-glamorous wedding you will find it in Monique Lhullier’s 2014 collections. Highlights were her contemporary asymmetric cuts of draped material, tulle cocktail dresses, lace embellished illusion necklines and, of course, her famous whimsical ball gowns.
Carolina Herrera
Renowned for her sophisticated wedding dresses. Her Spring/Summer 2014 collections does not disappoint. The return of more conservative silhouettes was a theme for this collection. This 1950s-inspired Carolina Herrera look mixes long lace sleeves and an “illusion neckline”—translucent fabric covering the neck—with a flirty sweetheart shape.
