ShoesandDrama.com | Uptown vs. Downtown: Bloomingdale's – Dubai debuts their Spring/Summer 2014 collections as a dual catwalk event

It was a friendly and fashionable battle of the season’s best trends as Bloomingdale’s -Dubai took over the iconic landmark, The Gate, DIFC, to showcase their latest collections during their Spring/Summer 2014 runway show.

Over 500 guests were in attendance and for the first time, the massive venue was transformed into a dual catwalk for the “Which Side Are You On?” Fashion Show where 60 models presented must-have designer and contemporary labels in true Uptown versus Downtown fashion on contrasting runways.

The highly anticipated fashion show translated sporty chic, monochrome whites, power sets, daytime metallics and painterly prints as some of the season’s hottest trends in Womenswear for both the Uptown and Downtown looks, and included stand-out styles and showstoppers from new brands and coveted designer collections including Victoria Beckham, DKNY, Peter Pilotto, Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang and Givenchy and local and regional accessories designers, Palestyle and Cashhimi.

In Menswear, designer labels Valentino Men, Brunello Cucinelli, Moschino, Moncler and 3.1 Phillip Lim lead the way with their trend focus on athletic rave, funky formals and prints parade for Downtown style which were nicely played against clean, ‘paper’ shades of white and athletic luxe looks from Hardy Amies, Hugo Boss and Kenzo for the Uptown portion of the shows.

As the official make-up sponsor for the show, @Illamasqua created two distinct makeup looks for the show representative of the respective Uptown and Downtown scenes. For the ‘Uptown’ girl, the brand took inspiration from old Hollywood glamour. Classic updos also helped draw attention to the highlighted feature of the look which was a strong red lip. For the ‘Downtown’ girl, Illamasqua drew their makeup influence from modern day New York City downtown fashionistas and went for an edgier makeup look with a big focus on smoky eyes and an almost nude lip, which was complimented by loose hair styles and edgy fashion statements worn by the models.

Under a clear night sky, the outdoor venue also provided the perfect backdrop for the presence of one very special star, recording artist Conor Maynard, who gave an energetic surprise live performance at the post show reception.
