Bloomingdale’s-Dubai continues its ‘Celebrate the World’ campaign with the launch of UK designer, Sophia Webster’s eponymous quirky footwear and accessories Spring/ Summer 2013 collection themed ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse’ which included a special preview of her Autumn/ Winter 2013 collection.

The Women’s Footwear Department at Bloomingdale’s-Dubai offered a whimsical welcome to guests as they were greeted with colourful cake pops and a photo opportunity inside of a life-sized doll box accessorized with bags and shoes from Webster’s SS13 collection. Attendees who bought her designs were given the exclusive opportunity to have their purchase autographed by Sophia herself. The evening also witnessed the arrival of Webster’s mentor and friend, Nicholas Kirkwood.

The collection tests the imagination thanks to its playful, fashion-forward styles. Inspired by Brazil and artist Yayoi Kusama, the vibrant colours (think neon yellow, pastel blue and hot pink), whimsical motifs and funky materials add to their appeal. Styles range from platforms and kitten heels to flats with beaded embellishments inspired by Chinese tribal headwear. Each makes a statement, whether it’s lace-ups with laser-cut flamingos and polka-dot block heels or strappy sandals featuring polka-dot appliqués and heels made of stacked beads.

“My customer is someone who doesn’t take herself too seriously, is colourful and likes to have fun with what she wears,” Webster says. “She expresses her personality through her shoes.”

A treat to be relished, Sophia Webster’s Spring/ Summer 2013 collection is now available at the Footwear Department, Ground Floor, Bloomingdale’s-Dubai, The Dubai Mall.

About Sophia Webster

Sophia Webster, the 27 year-old British footwear and accessories designer debuted her first collection for Spring/Summer 2013 after working as a design assistant to Nicholas Kirkwood for two years. She graduated with a specialized MA footwear course from the Royal College of Art and a BA degree from the renowned Cordwainers College. Her academic career was highlighted by many awards including the Cordwainers at London College of Fashion Award of Excellence (2008), the Drapers Student Footwear Designer of the Year Award (2009) and the Browns Shoe Designer Award (2010). Sophisticated and modern, commercially viable yet creatively fresh, Webster has been applauded for developing an aesthetic that is completely her own with a marked femininity.

Sophia Webster has bagged the Conde Nast Footwear News Emerging Designer of the Year award for 2012 and has been given the prestigious New Gen Award, for the second consecutive season, by the British Fashion Council for her forthcoming Autumn/ Winter 2013 collection. Though her debut collection is flying off the shelves, Webster says the label is still evolving. For autumn-winter 2013 she intends to introduce more handbags, while balancing the more daring styles with commercial and wearable pieces.
