Dior Ready-to-Wear Autumn-Winter 2014-15 Accessories – The Attributes of Power

ShoesandDrama.com | Dior Fall-Winter 2014 Collection's Accessories - The Attributes of Power

Echoing the clothes designed by Raf Simons for fall-winter 2014-2015, the collection’s accessories deck out the Dior-wearing women in the symbols of their omnipotence.

She’s an energetic woman who moves seamlessly through an abstracted city setting, a conqueress sporting all the symbols of triumphant womanhood. The urban landscape in which she thrives is her territory: she’s appropriated its codes, in a style mixing tailored elegance, the allure of evening glamour and the influence of the street. On her feet, a whole new kind of sneaker rises majestically on its high heels. The Dior-wearing woman carries off this arresting mix of genres with ease, a creative hybridization in which the stiletto becomes a sports pump, and where classic black leather is paired with sky blue, orange, pale mint green or bright yellow. And it’s this same urban energy that can be found in her handbags: evening pochettes and Diorissimo  bags in crocodile tricked out in stripes of yellow and black, blue and white, black and red, where the colors fuse as though hurriedly tagged on the precious skin. When they’re not boasting luxurious graffiti, the Dior woman’s handbags adopt a more masculine air: a shoulder strap gives the feeling of a business woman’s briefcase, an external patch pocket with a metal lock the suggestion of a hard-sided case.

It’s undeniable – in this futuristic world dreamt up by Raf Simons it’s the women who are in control.“This season I wanted to propose a new woman,” the house’s creative director explains.“A woman with power and energy in a very definite way.”  As the ultimate sign of her omnipotence, she literally wears men chained at her wrists or around her neck, the silvered or gilt links in the shape of male bodies which, with their muscular metallic arms, hold drops of colored glass just as Atlas, it was said, carried the terrestrial globe in his hands.
